Not all organic cotton is fair trade cotton, and not all fair trade cotton is organic. This can be especially frustrating for people who want the best of both worlds.

A good indicator of whether or not organic cotton is fair trade is by checking the labels on the cotton as well as the price. Fair trade materials and goods come at a higher price than other sources, in part due to the fact that the base workers are paid better and the fair trade goods are more carefully watched. Combining organic and fair trade often means that the price of the finished product is quite a lot higher than alternative products.
